In America is an emotional roller coaster. This 2002 film written by Jim, Naomi, and Kirsten Sheridan as a loosely-semi-biographical account of the way the Sheridan family moved to the United States of America.
Your feeling from the film really depends on your perspective on life in general. The family faces enormous struggles, encounters many of the world's less desirable characters but you also see the glory and happiness a single air conditioning unit can bring in the summer heat. You see the glory of a family that holds together and finally ekes out a living and some sanity in a world of change and chaos. So what do you take away from that? To the extent that the film predicts some semblance of the real situation, it was that the immigrant struggle is a tough one but that in the end it is worth it. It shows that there are problems and obstacles like in any life but that hard work is rewarded.
